Hello! I'm Kayleigh Harper - Instructional designer by day and triathlete, runner, coach, karate instructor, and current learner of pickle ball all the rest of the time. I recently planted a pollinator garden to help save the bugs and the worst part is just trying to keep the weeds and my animals out of it. I enjoy a good book, love to nap, insist on being outside, and don't mind old school typing on my typewriter!

I've recently transitioned into instructional design. So, I asked my friends how they would describe me and one of them said that I am "pragmatically creative." What? Well, a quick google search using that definition says I have a sensible and realistic imagination of original ideas. Having been a math teacher for 14 years, I can easily see the whole pragmatic side. Creative? Well, I can draw. Sure, there are so many ways to be creative, but I truly believe my friend hit that nail on the head.

Why "pragmatically creative" for the first part of this summary? Well, I believe it's what is going to help land me my next job! I am sensible and I am definitely realistic. Those are qualities I feel are best to help employers design and develop the best learning solutions for their employees. Creativity might help in that as well. ;)

There's the tip of the iceberg about me, but what skills can I bring to the table?

I can conduct a needs analysis to determine if training is needed. If it is, I'm great at prioritizing information to determine what's important. I can easily break down concepts and make assessments based on learning objectives. I can write design documents and storyboards, plus develop different modalities for the best learning experience.  I will find ways to communicate and work with the different people involved - other IDs, SMEs, and stakeholders - so I can gather information and receive feedback for the best possible training. I make sure to keep to the existing schedule, however, I know flexibility and adaptability are key for any job and can easily make adjustments when needed.

What about those "other" skills?

I possess great time management skills. I'm very organized and can effectively communicate. Problem solving is my jam and troubleshooting is no big deal (google knows everything). I want to learn from others, so I make adjustments and am adaptable to feedback. Now, I know these are cliche, but I truly am dependable, motivated and open-minded. And I'd consider myself a cooperative decision maker and pragmatically creative.
